Academic Staff
It is The International School of Moscow's policy to employ teachers with outstanding professional credentials from the UK with relevant experience delivering the English National Curriculum. On occasion, the school will also employ outstanding teachers with other internationally recognised qualifications and British curriculum experience. In order to be qualified, teachers must possess a degree (usually a 3 year course at UK University) coupled with a specialised and relevant Educational/Teaching diploma issued by a reputable institution (usually 1 year). Alternatively, teachers take a specialised 4-year teaching degree, leading to Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) qualification. Teachers of our Early Years section must hold a diploma of Early Childhood studies (usually 2 years). Teachers are also required to have relevant experience in other reputable British Schools. Our academic staff has an average teaching experience of 6 years. Mrs. Andrews (Headteacher) has been working for our group of schools since it branched into Asia. She was part of the initial management structure of our flagship school in Beijing. Guangzhou was her initial headship, where Mrs. Andrews was responsible for opening an Infant school. Each teacher also has the support of at least one full-time Teaching Assistant who helps to support the high quality of teaching and learning that takes place in our classrooms, particularly in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy. Our Teaching Assistants have a wealth of experience in the International Education sector, with an average of 7 years experience working for schools prior to joining ISM. The Teaching Assistants at ISM are mostly ESL qualified teachers iand support the needs of our EAL pupils in the classroom all day, ensuring their rapid progression to full fluency in spoken and written English. |
